Tournament

Kenmure Country Club was the setting for the 13th Annual Pardee Foundation Tournament of Champions on May 19. The weather for the event was sunny with a light breeze-perfect for the 140 golfers who participated this year. Kris Hoce, CEO of Pardee Hospital, and Chris Burns, Co-Chair of the Tournament, welcomed everyone to the event.
At the Award and Sponsorship Ceremony, Chris Burns announced the winners and thanked the 2008 Golf Tournament Committee, Foundation staff and Tournament volunteers for their role in making the event successful.
Proceeds from this year’s tournament totaled $82,637 and will be used to purchase life-saving equipment for the Emergency Department.
“Cardiac arrest can happen without warning. The best care for the patient in this setting is quick response by emergency personnel. The defibrillator equipment being provided by Pardee Foundation is one of the items most widely used in life-saving episodes,” states Dr. Robert C. Boleman, Chief of Staff and Medical Director, Emergency Department.
Time matters when a patient has a cardiac episode, and that’s why these state-of-the-art defibrillators are needed. The goal is to stabilize the patient quickly to save precious heart muscle. Pardee’s Emergency Department has been recognized throughout the WNC and the State for timely stabilization of heart attacks as part of the RACE Initiative. Pardee’s average time is 91 minutes.
At the end of the day, there was much to celebrate-the picture-perfect day, the extraordinary course, the participation of 140 golfers, the first women’s division, the 35+ volunteers, and the knowledge that $82,637 had been raised for life-saving equipment.
